Regicide is a clever game that can be played with a standard deck of cards. I purchased a special art deck for the game, which I really didn’t need, but it is cool and the art is very well done.

The main goal of the game is to essentially defeat the four jacks, queens, and kings, in that order, with each step up in royalty getting increasingly challenging. In order to defeat them, the player (or players) must discard cards with values that add up to or exceed the strength value of the visible face card. If the player can successfully overcome all twelve face cards, they win! However, if they ever run out of cards in their deck or receive too much damage from the face cards counterattacks, they lose. Each suit also has abilities that can be useful in drawing cards, adding strength to attacks, increasing defense, etc., but if the suit of the face card matches the suit of the card played, the effect gets negated.

This game is a tricky beast! It’s quite difficult, but it’s a fun challenge. It’s quick and easy to play while watching something or in a place with distractions. It’s also portable and doesn’t take up much table real estate, which is nice. The design is original and a clever use of a standard deck of cards. This is definitely a game anyone can play since you really don’t need anything except a deck of cards and the rules. I’d definitely recommend checking this one out!

Oh, and is the specific deck I purchased necessary? No. Is it cool and worth it if you’re into it, though? Yes.
