The Longsdale in Revolt expansion for Oh My Goods! is necessary to play solo, so it’s the only way I’ve ever experienced it. The beauty of this expansion, at least for me, is the slightly branching campaign that introduces a story, additional cards, and a few new mechanics. The story can be played multiplayer as well, so if you’re a fan of the base game, I recommend picking this up to enhance your experience.

Oh My Goods! is a game focused on card-driven engine building. You construct buildings, use assistants to help you produce goods in those buildings, and then sell the goods for money. Once you understand the flow of the game, the mechanics are rather simple, but that certainly doesn’t undermine its difficulty or depth of strategy.

If you keep up with our reviews, you know I love a good campaign solo game, so this automatically started off on the right foot. Not only is there the campaign, but there is a branching storyline dependent on the decisions you make. The story itself is well written, progresses appropriately, and creates a thematic experience. Each different chapter encourages you to focus on unique building types and the production of specific goods, so you get to explore a lot of the game and gradually integrate the additional content.

Although most campaign games aren’t typically very replayable, the clever game design makes this one an outlier in that regard. While the mechanics stay similar from game to game, the sheer number of cards involved and strategic possibilities help this game not get too stale. I’ve played through the campaign twice already, and I’m sure I’ll play more.

The art is very pleasing to the eye and thematic. It’s fitting for the game and has a nice touch of whimsy.

Truth be told, this game is quite challenging. There were many games where I was one step away from success but couldn’t manage to pull out the win. There were others where I wasn’t even close. 😂 It’s hard to balance when and what to build in order to guarantee maximum production. While being mechanically straightforward, it’s not a simple game to master.

If you like campaign games, games that play quickly but have a good amount of strategic depth, a strong amount of variability, and some fun decision making, I’d highly suggest checking out Oh My Goods! and the Longsdale in Revolt Expansion.
